Graduating from the University of Lincoln’s Film and Television course has led to huge things within the television world and what a small world (once you’re in it) it is! Having put in the hard graft in the shape of work experience during the summer of my 2nd year, I managed to land myself a job at the BBC within a week of graduating.
Fortunately I have been working as a Production Runner in the BBC London headquarters for the past 8 months on a programme called The One Show. Working on the live show, five days a week has taught me incredible amounts: working with the camera/floor crew, filming out on location, managing teams, greeting guests, briefing audiences, researching stories and the joys of expenses!
Over the past month I’ve stepped up to the Assistant Floor Manager role on both The One Show and The Perfect 10 – a role I was first introduced to during my time in Lincoln.
Working in the industry opened many doors and within just a year of graduating I’ve worked on a variety of programmes including: Strictly Come Dancing, Tumble, Rip Off Britain Live, Sports Relief and The State Opening of Parliament. From production to production I’ve found that many similar faces pop-up – I’m even working alongside one of the University Professor’s ex-colleagues! Studying at the University of Lincoln School of Film & Media provided me with many of opportunities, both inside and outside of the course, which ultimately helped secure myself a job in the industry!
