Guest Lecture – Phil Harding

Screen Shot 2013-10-17 at 08.38.03
Phil Harding’s track record is incredible. As a recording engineer and producer he has worked with artists as diverse as The Clash, Killing Joke, Dead Or Alive, Kylie Minogue and East 17.

As part of his lecture tour to promote his book PWL: From The Factory Floor he came to the University and gave a very entertaining and informative lecture to a packed audience of Audio Production students.

The main thrust of Phil’s lecture was how different aspects of the music industry service each other and why this is something to bear in mind when fulfilling a particular role. He talked about the importance of group work in gaining these skills and about how having the right attitude is essential for success in an industry that relies so heavily on professional relationships. LSM’s Sound Theatre: Recording with Robert Hardy

Robert Hardy_LSM Sound TheatreActor Robert Hardy records in our super Sound Theatre – after a fire alarm goes off and he mastered some tongue twisters from reading the Magna Carta! Courtesy of Mary Powell we’ve republished an extract of her article from the Good Taste magazine:

2015 is going to be very special. Anniversaries abound, particularly the sealing of Magna Carta in 1215, the Castle restoration will be complete and a series of Magna Carta events are planned throughout the 800th anniversary year. We are also planning Lincolnshire’s Great Exhibition 2015 where the most exciting and rarely seen works of art will be displayed in The Collection, Usher Gallery and Wren Library.  However, exciting moments are already happening as I head over to the University of Lincoln to sit in on an unusual sound recording. Lord Cormack, Chairman of the Historic Lincoln Trust has invited the actor Robert Hardy to record the full text of Magna Carta and he has very kindly agreed. The School of Media undoubtedly have some of the best facilities for students and they have volunteered their sound theatre and expertise.

Matt North – Career Update

Screen Shot 2013-09-10 at 15.01.35

Since my last update, things have changed dramatically for me in my career and I have been very busy. In June this year, I left Ideal Shopping Direct after just under a year of service working as both a Technical Operator and Audio Operator – mixing over 500 hours of live broadcast audio for the TV shopping channels Ideal World, Create & Craft and The Deal Channel.

I left the role because I managed to land an incredible job working as a sound recordist for a small family company in London called Videoheads and have since been involved in some very exciting projects.  Continue reading
