Michael Henry, Class of 2009 | Official Trailer ‘MUTE’ (2016)

Michael Henry_2009GradIndependent filmmaker, who is one of our inspirational LSFM Industry Mentors, 2009 alumnus Michael Henry has posted an update on the latest development at Quandary Productions

We’ve recently released the official trailer to our latest feature film ‘MUTE’, written and directed by me, and here’s the synopsis:  Verbal communication has been outlawed by the rich elite, in an attempt to stop people speaking out against the conditions they live in. The new laws are enforced by the security department of the ‘Spectrum’ corporation – a huge conglomerate of the five biggest companies in the world. A voyeuristic filmmaker falls in love with an underground spoken word artist. As they find themselves unable to talk to one another, they start to make small films and write letters to one another. As the poet speaks out against ‘Spectrum’ and its owners, their lives become in danger. Will they be able to save each other in time?

To be released May of this year, on various platforms, including 4k Ultra HD, we’ll be looking to make this a huge hit at festivals around the world. Continue reading

James Jackson, Class of 2014 | Producer Quandary Productions

After graduating from Media Production in 2014 I immediately worked as a Runner for eight months in London at various Reality TV post-production companies. I had aspirations to become an Editor by working my way up the ladder. I did a lot of shadowing with Edit Assistants, Editors and Producers in the very little spare time I had. Imagining looking back in five years and not being proud of the path I took or the work I had created, I decided that I wanted to work on films I could call art and be proud of. The long shifts at awkward times make it difficult to have a social life outside of work and it was even harder to be creative. On a personal level that made me lose a lot of spirit.

Before I graduated I worked as a Production Assistant for Quandary Productions on their feature film Time and Place (2014). This film was released during my time in London. What Quandary did with their inspirations, technique and limited budget was amazing and it got me thinking that I didn’t need to work my way up anywhere to create films I am proud of. Michael Henry, Class of 2009 | Web Series This is Good (2015)

MichaelHenry_ThisIsGood2015_webseriesOur 2009 graduate and independent filmmaker Michael Henry summed up the web series called This is Good  (2015), which was written and directed by Tom Bridger as “the funniest project we’ve all been part of.”  At Quandary Productions Mike was the Producer/DOP on the 7-part series and Tom also runs the Actor Support Scheme at the indie to help actors achieve their goals. One of our recent graduates Liam Gilroy worked as an Intern at Quandary Productions and is the lead actor in episode 5.

This is Good is described as a British comedy web series about people trying to find their definition of being happy.  The series has 7 stories, 7 styles and 7 main characters. Here’s episode 2 called Mike and it features Tom Bridger and stars Michael Henry. Also look out for 2009 alumnus who is a media producer Stuart Almond (he’s the one with toy guns!).  He said the web series “is exactly what the title says it is, Good!  It’s also completely free which is a rare thing.”

You can see the web series at Quandary’s site. From the indie: If you liked it, please share! Like us on Facebook: facebook.com/thisisgoodwebseries  Continue reading

Michael Henry, Class of 2009 | Screening ‘Time and Place’ 1st Nov

Michael-Henry_TimeandPlace_releaseOne of our creative media mentors is 2009 alumnus Michael Henry at Quandary Productions who’ll be at ‘Meet the Graduates’ network event this Wednesday to share advice about indie filmmaking and opportunities. Timely because he’s just completed the final cut on his latest film ‘Time and Place‘ (2014). There will be a free public screening on 1st November in Lincoln (UK) and the film will be released with ‘Pay-What-You-Want’ On Demand. The production team said ‘it’s the best thing we’ve ever made’. Mike said he’s excited in his latest posting:

Finally, the time has come! After months of hard work ‘TIME AND PLACE’ is finalised, exported, and sent off for DVD batch production. We premiere the film in one week, crowdfunders can expect their DVDs a day or two earlier next week, and we’re very excited about the ‘Pay-What-You-Want’ release on November 1st – same date as the free screening at The Collection in Lincoln. TIME AND PLACE‘ took a good nine months to write, three to shoot, seven months of editing and will no doubt be months before I consider it entirely over, once all the promotion is done and festival fates are sealed. We’re trying something a little different this time – audience members will have the choice of how much they pay to see the film. So what’s different about our On Demand release?  Continue reading

UNTITLED Independent Film Night by Quandary Productions

2009 alumnus Michael Henry is one of our inspirational media mentors and has posted about Quandary Productions first indie film night, last week, at The Angel Coffee House in Lincoln (UK):

Michael-Henry_untitled-film-night_QuandaryProductions

Hosted by Quandary’s very own Tom Bridger, the night was a chance for low-to-no budget short films to be showcased to fresh audiences. When first starting out as a filmmaker it can be hard to get your work shown. This is something we appreciated and wish to remedy within the local area. The night consisted of several short films continue reading →

Class of 2009, Michael Henry | ‘Time and Place’ Trailer

Michael Henry_2009GradPassionate filmmaker Michael Henry set up Quandary Productions. He said members of the indie production team strive to make both short and feature films of a professional quality, on the slimmest of budgets.” The latest ‘low budget epic film’ is called a Time and Place, which is due to be screened in October 2014.  In the meantime, Mike said you can see the official trailer:

We’ve finally been able to release the Official Trailer to the film, which we feel captures the tone of the intense dramatic moments and the surreal comedic moments. So far, feedback is looking great, with a lot of people eager to watch the film upon release.

‘TIME AND PLACE’ is our fifth feature film. Having crowdfunded nine months ago, shooting wrapped in March this year, and we are currently working on Post-Production. Continue reading

Graduate Michael Henry on his first day shoot on ‘Time and Place’

Michael henry_dayone_time&placeLSM’s 2009 alumnus and indie film-maker Michael Henry’s been shooting ‘TIME AND PLACE’ this week. He said: “the footage is looking great so far. We’ve really upped our visual game and I cannot wait to show everyone the finished film.” He’s been reflecting on day one’s shoot:

It was an unusual change of pace for us, as we usually film so swiftly. We decided before the shoot to take our time and really push the visual quality of the film. Spending longer (it took an hour and a half to shoot one shot) on each take. and scene, has made the shoot a little less enjoyable than other productions we’ve worked together on. Perhaps it’s because we’ve only really shot parts which emphasise the serious tone so far, or perhaps I need to cheer up, be more patient and enjoy the small moments as they come. One thing’s for sure, we are all looking forward to getting stuck into the more dialogue-heavy, meatier scenes as opposed to the shot-to-shot moments we’ve done so far. Continue reading

LSM 2009 graduate Michael Henry, founder of Quandary Productions said:

Michael_HenryWe’re offering two lucky individuals the opportunity to make some extra cash, gain experience with a local (Lincoln-based) production company, and work with brands as diverse as LEGO, LYNX, PRINGLES, and GILLETTE. Michael Henry’s crowdfunding for his next film

From 2009 LSM graduate Michael Henry, indie filmmaker and founder of Quandary Productions:  Please spread the word about crowdfunding for our next feature. ‘TIME AND PLACE’? will be a low-budget epic in which one man has to come to terms with the consequences of his actions, knowing that some day all that surrounds him will cease to exist. Time collapses, things lose their meaning, and moral boundaries seem absurd. Here’s the trailer.
