I recently attended the University of Lincoln alumni event at the National Liberal Club in London. I must admit to some anxiety as to whether I would recognise alumni from years ago. No problem, Charlotte Cummins – Class of 2006, Media Production (pictured on the left) – recognised me first and though I could not remember her name immediately, I did remember teaching her.
The event was kicked off by a speech by Mary Stuart, Vice-Chancellor welcoming us all and mentioning Rosie Turner – Class of 2015, Media Production (pictured on the right with Charlotte) – as one of the most recent alumni present.
This was followed by a brief description of his post-Lincoln career by Sebastian Cox (BA Furniture 2009, MA Design 2011). Sebastian started a furniture business in rural Lincolnshire on graduating and has now moved to London with a staff of 5.
Once I had gathered together the LSFM 4. We talked about Lincoln then and now. All mentioned how much they had enjoyed their time in the School, their desire to come back to visit and their thanks to staff who taught them. They have progressed to a wide variety of activities and careers. Film and Television 2015 graduates Kate Marrison and Jack McCarthy had travelled separately in Asia and Jack had already taught English as a second language in Vietnam for 6 months.
Pictured left to right: Charlotte Cummins (2006, MP) now working on OBs for BBC Sport, Rosie Turner (2016, MP) working at CBeebies, Jack McCarthy (2015, FTV) working for Falmouth University as part of a student support team for online programmes and Kate Marrison (2015, FTV) just started her MA in Holocaust Studies at Royal Holloway, University of London.
The evening closed with a short description of the restoration work at the club by Paul Croft and Mike Poole (pictured), which is a part of a Lincoln external activity with students employed to work on the restoration (re-assuringly at industry rates!). It has also featured some ground breaking work with 3D printers providing some of the replica fittings for the restoration. Yet another Lincoln link to London and the world beyond the campus.
With running canapés and drinks, a good time was had by all. Why not join us at the next event? For more details of alumni activity, see the Alumni Office website. LSFM’s on-campus alumni networking event Meet the Graduates between former and current students will be on Wednesday 2nd Nov. This is a great opportunity for our students to ask any questions and connect with industry professionals.
