LSM graduate to run Festival of Japanese Culture

Blueprint_Film_Foundation_logo_150wFrom LSM graduate David Brook, class of 2003, now working at Blueprint Film:

Two of us here are University of Lincoln graduates (including myself – I did a BA in Media Production, graduating in 2003) and we thought our latest endeavour might interest current students.

We’re putting on a Festival of Japanese Culture in Lincoln on January 21-27th 2013. It will include an art exhibition running through the week at Cafe Portico and on Sunday 27th at The Venue in Bishop Grosseteste University there will be a host of activities surrounding the screening of 2 classic Japanese films – Akira and Pigs and Battleships. We’ve got a martial arts demonstration, a musical performance, food and drink and a talk preceding Pigs and Battleships by Jasper Sharp, an expert in Japanese cinema. Continue reading

Michael Hankinson, class of 2012

“…apply for absolutely every realistic entry level opportunity that there is out there, because you never know who you will meet and where it will lead to, even if it is as little as making the director a cup of coffee and sweeping the floor.”

Since leaving Uni I have spent time gaining short term experience at different companies around the UK. I worked with companies local to the uni such as Blueprint Films and Darren Scales’ Backyard Productions, both of which were brilliant opportunities and helped me to learn a great deal about the industry.

Andy Smith, class of 2012

While at university I felt it was important to concentrate on my work but also keep my ears down for job opportunities. This is really important in the 3rd year as in a few months you’re not a student any more and you want to get far in an industry relating to the course you’ve been doing for the last three years!

I currently work as a Technical Operator for Satellite Information Services, a company based in both Milton Keynes and MediaCityUK, who broadcast horse and dog racing to betting shops all around the world. They also have the largest outside broadcasting division in the country. Continue reading
