See some of our marvellous media mentors. Thanks to professionals who kindly volunteer their time from their busy work schedules to mentor a student from the University of Lincoln School of Film & Media. Commitment with a student-mentee is to have at least 6 contact times (either online or in person) across an academic year. Meet the Graduates 2017 | Vox Pop on Job-hunting

Thanks to our alumni who shared their experiences of the working world with Lincoln School of Film & Media’s students at our networking event Meet the Graduates (8th Nov). Head of LSFM Professor Steven Peacock said: There was a real buzz about the place. Meet the Graduates | Industry Profiles on 8th Nov 2017

See who is planning to come for LSFM’s free industry network event Meet the Graduates. Former students have posted a profile on their experiences since graduating. Our Grads (their work permitting) have spared time to be on-campus with LSFM students on 8th Nov. THIS Wednesday MtG 2017 is your on-campus opportunity to connect with like-minded creatives, make industry links, share tips on job-hunting and collaborate on projects.

LSFM STUDENTS are invited to take their theatre seat for 2pm in the Stephen Langton Building (SLB) for the Graduate Question Time panel. Ask questions to our alumni who work – on staff and freelance contracts – across the media industry from big corporates (BBC TV) to indies (Epix Media). Please note: Lisa Rustage has just got work on a feature film – at short notice as things tend to be in her job – so she said: “Truly disappointed I cannot make it!”

Luke Pickering, Class of 2012 | Q&A with JAMES online

Luke Pickering, BA (Hons) Audio Production in 2012, who achieved industry recognition at this year’s Pro Sound Rising Star Award is now featured online in JAMES accredited courses about graduate success. Here’s an extract from his interview with Joint Audio Media Education Support, JAMES:

What course did you study at Lincoln and what were the factors that made you choose that one in particular? I had looked at a few options, but for me, the (BA) Audio Production course at Lincoln offered something more than a purely technical perspective on the subject. It covers a really broad spectrum initially before allowing you to specialise in a chosen area. I had actually been studying art beforehand, so it felt like a good decision for me to build my skills up across the board. Regarding the University itself, I was more familiar with it than others, having lived here all my life, and I knew I liked the campus.

Any advice or tips you could offer those currently looking for employment? I can only speak from my own experience, and you might even decide you don’t want a ‘career’ as such! But as far as audio jobs go, keep pushing, keep putting yourself in as many situations where an opportunity might come along. It took me 4 years till that happened for me, with a bit of luck. LSFM Alumni Success | 2017 Lincolnshire Digital & Tech Awards

Congrats! LSFM Graduate success was at the Lincolnshire Digital & Tech Awards 2017 category: Best Use of Multimedia. Visit Lincoln won for its brand campaign created with Wallbreaker – a video agency run by LSFM 2014 media production alumni Thomas Mckie, Ashley Wilks and Luke Winter who said: We’re chuffed! A lot of hard work went into that campaign. Ash is pictured left of Lydia Rusling, Head of Visit Lincoln.

Runner-up in this category was epix_media, a company set up by 2007 alumni who’re co-directors Zoe Easey and Will King. Story about the awards is in The Lincolnite where images were taken by 2012 graduate Steve Smailes a freelance photographer and he is one of our inspirational LSFM Industry Mentors. Wallbreaker posted on its site that Visit Lincoln: commissioned the creation of three individual videos that would be used as social media marketing tools, with an aim to encourage people to consider Lincoln as their next possible place to explore. Continue reading →

Hannah Wilson, Class of 2012 | Designer at Grazia Magazine

I can’t quite believe that I moved to Lincoln to start my degree just over 6 years ago now, and that I’ve had a full time job in London for over three! I studied Contemporary Lens Media, now BA (Hons) Photography, at Lincoln, and can honestly say I wouldn’t have the job I do today without my degree from the university; not only because of the skills that I learnt whilst studying, or even just having the title on my CV, but the fact that it gave me three years of uninterrupted time to build a solid portfolio that I could proudly take to interview with prospective employers. Our lecturers used to tell us to treasure the time, because rarely would we ever have as much time to invest in making work again. How right they were!

I currently work at Grazia magazine in London. My role is on the the art desk, designing pages for the magazine and editing images to choose the best ones to send to print each week. Continue reading →

2014 Graduate Chloe Ward is a Producer at Standby Productions. She has good news on the indie, set up by 2005 alumnus Simon Owen, and it needs your vote to clinch a business award: We’ve been nominated for a Talk of Manchester Award, under the category of ‘Best Video Production Co.’ The award is decided based upon public votes and voting closes THIS Friday. We’d really appreciate it if you could share our news and VOTE!

We’ve created a campaign film for our nomination in the TOM awards to spread the word and gain crucial votes – we jumped at the chance to do something different. We shot the cheesiest and most sarcastic film we could and it came out beautifully!

Headspace 2015 Industry Event | Lincoln School of Film & Media

Today’s HEADSPACE was LSFM’s on-campus industry event organised by Senior Lecturer Zara Healy. Our Visiting Professor Trevor Dann opened the day. He introduced industry guests, who were primarily our alumni and BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Managing Editor Charlie Partridge. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain an insight into the range of employment after graduation. Work can be in many forms as our graduates shared why they started their own media businesses; how to leap from local radio into local telly as well as network TV; and doing forms of digital media to pursue their passions.
