I can’t believe over four years have passed since my last update. As ever, loads has happened since then! Recently, I have returned to freelance life, after spending over five and a half years working at Linney Create, a rapidly expanding film production and digital agency based in Mansfield.
My time there was a real rollercoaster, working with a dedicated team of camera operators, producers, editors and writers to create around 400-plus films a year for clients ranging from Royal Mail to Triumph motorbikes. I was lucky enough to travel the world and work on some fantastic projects whilst at Linney, and really developed my own technical, creative and managerial skills. During my time at Linney I worked as a camera operator, editor, producer and also led the team of up to four in-house camera operators – a real juggling act! I also completed the required training and assessments to be granted permissions from the CAA to operate drones commercially – it was very exciting to be at the cutting edge of this new technology. My latest showreel demonstrates the variety of films I worked on during this time.
Dani Moseley’s creative career has clocked up ten years from acting (film & TV) to award winning script writing, as well as modelling and facilitating workshops, after graduating in media production. She’s one of our inspirational industry mentors and also, er, our annual blogger! It’s nearly been a year already since I last posted in … Meet the Graduates was great. Lovely meeting some of you and my mentee, who I have been in contact with all year and glad to hear she’s applying for as many things as she sees fit regardless of the outcome, as you just never know.
LA and New York were amazing. Got management out there before I even landed, which was cool. It was just nice to be there, by myself, seeing how life could be. It was the first time in a long while that I got to solely focus on my acting and it was heavenly. Did a few auditions, signed up to a few casting sites out there, caught up with my agent who I met early that year and we’re still very much in-tune with each other which is great. Continue reading
FOUR University of Lincoln alumni – 3 of them our media graduates – have been worked on the BBC Two TV programme, Me and My Dog: The Ultimate Contest, which is a 4 part series that begins on-air this evening (5th April) at 8pm.
The show’s presenter Chris Packham – University of Lincoln’s Visiting Professor – will be joined by the programme’s Dog Trainer and Behaviourist Sian Ryan [MSc in Clinical Animal Behaviour]. The behind the camera team working on the show included Daniel Bowring [BSc (Hons) Media Technology, 2009] pictured far left, who has sent the graduate group photo; our industry mentor Jonathan Sidwell [BA (Hons) Media Production, 2007] was 1st AD; and former LSFM student-mentee Bryony Hooper [BA (Hons) Media Production, 2015] was in the Production Team. WOW! My last update was June 2015. A lot has happened since then – I am an LSFM Industry mentor, and you can see my character Carly Fisher in BBC One’s Doctors THIS Thursday at 1.45. But I’m just going to do a quick overview as, looking back, I write too much lol. It’s the writer in me. The Forty Elephants film script got put into The British Urban Film Festival and Ch4 and we won BUFF Live Script Reading award (for 2015). Who’d have thought my first award would be for writing?
I did another subjectivity event where I had to write 3 monologues to do with ‘youth and the criminal justice system.’ Where the audience was a jury and had to decide whether the young person deserved to go down or not. We had a panel of experts (lawyers and those working in the justice system) to clarify what the real verdict would be and it all happened at The Royal Festival Hall, Southbank. The monologues and acting were received so well – some people were crying thinking they were real cases, which for me as a writer was brilliant especially as they rhymed, yet still seen as that actor truth. Powerful! The Forty Elephants was then put on at the Tavistock and POP Brixton and it went down a storm. They were my last performances and involvement with the play and Hiype productions. I have since parted ways, wanting to pursue other projects and go to LA, which has been the focus of 2016. On New Year’s Eve I sat down around a table, with two of my best friends with a notepad, pen and a glass of wine and we wrote our goals for 2016! Continue reading
Our 2007 graduate James Ian Gray calls himself a ‘junior cinematographer’. He has a new site and his blog is a good way to understand what is a DIT and what are LUTs? His industry career started two weeks before he graduated in sound at a television shopping channel. He’s been a runner at the BBC, managed 10 edit suites, worked as a researcher, became a freelancer, camera assisted and is a DIT. This is a must-read story from graduating to working on a BBC doco and film in the last couple of years. He said: I’m currently working as a DIT on a couple of music videos and art projects. I’ve just finished a Feature Bonded By Blood 2 (2015) as a DIT. Here is Jim’s latest showreel and he would like your feedback.

Our 2007 graduates Will King and Zoe Easey run Epix Media. The creative media company won at the first Lincolnshire Digital Awards 2015 for teaming up with client Homelet. Will at last night’s award ceremony: Stunned to have won Best Use of Multimedia at Lincs Digital Awards 2015. Amazing joint effort between Homelet and our team. So proud to have been part of an “award winning” partnership. Homelet said it was “delighted to have partnered with Epix Media on an amazing campaign recently – thrilled it’s been recognised with an award!”
Jason Bradbury, The Gadget Show presenter on Channel 5, is a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Lincoln and he attended the awards. Zoe captured his entrance and shared it on Vine.

Hi I’m Will King – a 2007 grad from this School and I’m involved in organising the Lincoln Shorts 2014 film festival. It’s a relaxed, yearly showing of short films (5mins or less) that are connected to the city in some way, whether they were produced here or made by people who live or study in Lincoln. The content ranges hugely from thought-provoking documentaries to CGI snowball fights, so everything is welcome!
Anybody in Lincolnshire with anything worth watching is encouraged to submit what they have – it doesn’t matter whether it’s amateur or professional, filmed on a phone or DSLR – if others might enjoy seeing it, send it in. This co-production was from 2013, which was the first collaboration between Ormeson Films and Short Cut Films.
A hugely diverse, eclectic and entertaining mix of locally-made short films will be on the big screen at Lincoln Drill Hall on October 18th 2014. Everyone is welcome to submit their footage NOW! Continue reading
Since leaving Lincoln I have worked my way up the Assistant Director ladder and I am now working as a 1st Assistant Director predominately in Commercials and Music Videos. I’m now in Chiapas, Mexico in the jungle shooting a show for discovery channel for a month… I’ll try and send an epic picture while I’m out here too!
Top Commercial Credits include: Sony, Racing Post, Diet Coke, BBC iplayer, The Ashes Cricket and Oreo. I have also worked on music videos for many chart topping acts including One Direction, The Kaiser Chiefs, Rudimental, Twin Atlantic and The Wombats. Recently I combined my passion for Rugby and my profession to work as a Rugby Consultant and 1st Assistant Director for the worlds 1st 3D Oculus Rift Experience for 02 & The RFU with the England Rugby Team – ‘Wear the Rose’ which was available to experience at Twickenham stadium.
I would love to help out as a media mentor at LSFM. For now, my advice to students: Try and learn as much as you can about the basics and keep up-to-date with technical advances and how they affect the digital workflow. Work experience is key – try and get as much as possible in your holidays!
