BBC work experience placements. Plus advice from our graduates.
The BBC is taking applications for work experience placements this November and December. Deadline’s 14th October. The beeb highlights that “you will only be able to apply for one Work Experience category – TV, Radio, Online or Business and Support. There is no separate category for online work, but all categories offer placements that have a strong interactive element. When you choose your category and fill in your online application, we’ll ask you some questions about what interests you and where in the UK you want to be based. If you are successful, we’ll do our best to match you to a placement that’s right for you.” Find out what you can expect and how to apply, by clicking here.
At Meet the Graduates 2013 here’s what our alumni said about how you can try to get work experience. Produced by LSM’s third year student blogger Rachel Hagreen, with camera crew Tom Anderson and Andrew West.

Frequency Fest 13: Call for your short films
From Sarah Barrow, Head of the Lincoln School of Media: Here’s a good opportunity to screen short films made by students, graduates and staff of the University as part of the Frequency Festival (18th-26th October). We’ve secured a slot at the prestigious ‘Collection’ venue in town on Saturday 26th October. If you’d like your work to be considered – it may be something already made or something you’d like to make over the next few days!
The winning prize will be an iPad mini for the film that the Festival directors like best – i.e. which they feel responds most effectively to the Festival theme. See the pointers for your entry.

From Third Years to Freshers – Our Advice
Hello! I’m Rachel Hagreen, a third year Media Production student. This is my first official post as a LSM student blogger, so I thought I’d take the opportunity to hand out a few pieces of advice for first year students studying Media Production or Film and TV, although the advice will almost certainly be useful for any student!
Two years ago if somebody had offered me advice I wouldn’t have bothered reading it because if we’re being totally honest all we care about this week is being a fresher and we tend to put our courses to the back of our mind at least for the first week but here’s my first piece of advice: read this list of advice from fellow third year students and try and take it all in!
Frequency 13 need volunteers
Do you want to ‘join the revolution’ and be part of the Frequency 13 team? Two LSM Senior Lecturers, and University of Lincoln alumni, produced this year’s fabulous Frequency trailer to promote Lincoln’s Digital Culture Festival, 18-26 October. David McSherry and Graham Cooper are part of the Frequency 13 team. The fest team said:
We need dynamic, positive and professional volunteers to help at Frequency events during the Festival. Whether you can commit to an evening, a day or the whole festival we would like to hear from you. There are a few positions available for you to apply for. Continue reading
Creative space in Lincoln to enhance the community spirit
Invitation from Lynne Smith at the Grimsby charity Foresight.
St Swithin’s Church is a fantastic exhibition space and we’re inviting artists, photographers, designers, performers and filmmakers to showcase their talents at St Swithin’s and encourage long-term community use of the church.
With a volunteer from the Diocese of Lincoln we are working with St Swithin’s Church to bring it to the forefront of community life. Our first event is to launch ‘Timebanking’ at an event over the Christmas Market weekend (in Lincoln).
The next meeting to discuss the project, it’ll be about an hour, is at St Swithin’s Church on Thursday 26th September at 11.30 am. The east end of the church is on Broadgate and it’s by the central library at 1 St Swithin’s Square in Lincoln. You are very welcome to attend or if you would like to contact me with any expressions of interest I can take them to the meeting on your behalf. I look forward to hearing from you. Apply now! Aspiring movie-makers who’re aged between 16 and 19 and in the region must get applications in by 30 September 2013. Email Robert Pitman at CfBT Education Services for an application form and further details about the BFI Film Academy in Lincoln: rpitman@cfbt.com Continue reading
