Lucy Madge in the 30 under 30 talent list

LSM graduate Lucy Madge has been named as one of the 30 brightest young UK radio talents, in the Radio Academy 30 under 30 list.

“The prestigious list, chosen from more than 200 applicants with a wide range of skills by a panel of independent judges, highlights the huge amount of young talent within the UK radio industry.

The final 30 made the list not just by doing their day job brilliantly, but by going the extra mile and achieving exceptional results during the past 12 months. The list recognises them as superb ambassadors for the radio industry as a whole.”

Take the Fast Train North

This is a free training day for media freelancers in digital, radio & television, to be held in MediaCityUK on Tuesday 20th Nov 2012.

The day is produced in partnership with the BBC Academy and Creative Skillset. Many leading training providers (DV Talent, Indie Training Fund, BECTU, ITV, Futureworks, The Farm, Grand Scheme Media, BBC Writers Room, and others) are coming together to provide a free training day for TV freelancers. To be eligible, you must have been a media professional for a minimum of two years and/or have three broadcast credits to your name and be employed on a short term or freelance contract. You must verify your work history in the mandatory section to be considered for a place.

The day is backed by Pact, Bectu, Broadcast magazine, broadcasters and many independent production companies.

After graduating with a degree in media production I took the usual route of trying to get as much experience as possible under my belt, in my chosen field of audio. I was fortunate enough to get land 5 different work experience placements across production facilities for Radio and Sound Post-Production for Film and TV.

First Career Steps – Matt North

Having finished my degree in Audio Production, I am currently working for Ideal Shopping Direct as a Technical Operator. The company broadcasts over four channels and its main channel, Ideal World, is live 17 hours a day. My main responsibilities within my role are varied and alongside operating audio for the shows, I am learning new skills in different roles such as Floor Technician, Video Controller and Camera Operation. Simon Ross – BBC Introducing

Since leaving the University of Lincoln, I have been spending time at BBC Lincolnshire as a Broadcast Assistant for a variety of shows. One of the biggest shows I am fortunate enough to now be part of is the Lincolnshire branch of the nationally recognised BBC Introducing initiative. BBC Introducing focuses on discovering and promoting unsigned artists from around the country by allocating a specific department in all of the BBC’s local radio stations.

Jack Shaw’s Chronicles of a Songwriter – out now!

Jack has just self-published his first in a series of books about songwriting.

Lyriconnect London 1 is a collection of Lyrics, Poetry and Verse written in London between 2011 and 2012. Jack says this is the start of a “series of books chronicling my story as a songwriter. From the London riots to the daily grind of supporting a passion, this is a snapshot at the first year of living in London.”

BBC Production Talent Pool 2012

I graduated from Lincoln in 2010.  In 2011 I was lucky enough to get onto the Vision Intake Pool scheme at the BBC (now known as the Production Talent Pool [Ed])

The scheme is coming up again and is open for applications on the 6th February 2012.  It’s also a little different this year with three categories to choose from, rather than two, these being: Runner, Production Management Assistant (TV) and Production Management Assistant (Radio). Continue reading
