Animation Degree Show, LSFM | 1st June 2016 at 1pm in LPAC

Here’s your invitation to the ANIMATION DEGREE SHOW 2016. Doors will open at 12.30 on Wednesday 1st June at University of Lincoln Performing Arts Centre (LPAC), Brayford Pool, LN6 7TS. The show’s free and all are welcome.

Join us for the show at 1pm in LPAC and see a showcase of stunning students’ work on the BA (Hons) Animation course at the Lincoln School of Film & Media. For about a couple of hours there’ll be screenings and a short session for awards. The Animation Degree Show will be a lovely way to celebrate end of year work and meet the animators.

Here’s your INVITATION to LSFM’s Contemporary Lens Media (CLM) Degree Show 2016. It’s free entry and open to the public from this Friday until 10th June at the University of Lincoln Art, Architecture and Design Building (AAD). Clementine Monro, Lincoln School of Film & Media’s Senior Lecturer, said: This year students are featuring works that include the genres of documentary, narrative, experimental and experiential in both the still and moving image. Join us on Friday 27 May at 7pm in the AAD west atrium and photography studio. Then the show’s open daily, including this weekend & Bank Holiday Monday, until June 10th from 10am-4pm. Photography is one of the University of Lincoln’s Design courses ranked 3rd in the UK, according to the National Student Survey 2015.

Michael Henry, Class of 2009 | MUTE (2016) released 21.05.2016

Independent filmmaker Michael Henry, our 2009 graduate and one of LSFM’s industry mentors, has been in touch about the general release of MUTE (2016). The film will be available on demand, DVD and to download, from Saturday 21st May 2016 then it will do the rounds at various international film festivals. The 76-minute film, by award winning production company Quandary Productions (QP), has a freedom of expression theme.

The indie said: Filmed in and around Lincoln, the independent film stars some of Lincoln’s finest acting talent including Nikki Mclusky, Tom Bridger, Charles Cromwell and Rob Smith. The film was shot July 2015, with the help of over 30 film students from the local College and University. The crew on MUTE included LSFM media production alumni: James Jackson, Producer/Sound Recordist, Louise Bawtree, Associate Producer and Nathan T. Dean, script supervisor. The feature film was written and directed by Michael Henry who explains his idea of MUTE.

Rachel Hagreen, Class of 2014 | Career Update: Sorted. Food!

A brand new blog post and another brand new job. That’s right, I’ve moved again. I’ve only been in London for under 2 years and this is already my third job. But this one is the one. In July 2015 I wrote a blog on here about having to start my own cooking channel because it was so difficult to get a job in online food video production. Little did I know that starting How To Kitchen would actually help me secure a job on my favourite cooking channel on YouTube, SORTEDfood.com.

As of April 2016, I became a camera operator and editor for the channel and have loved every second of it so far. This was the video I filmed on my second day working for them. Needless to say I nearly threw up on my first shoot day (not even joking).

Since then, I’ve been busy shooting and editing a number of their varied videos. The interview process was absolutely terrifying. Continue reading →

LSFM Degree Show 2016 | Lincoln Theatre Royal on 14th & 15th May

University of Lincoln School of Film and Media final year students will showcase their creative work at the Lincoln Theatre Royal THIS weekend, and YOU are invited. It is the first time the historic city venue has staged a two-day multimedia exhibition by third year undergraduates and it is the first time the annual event is off-campus. The LSFM Degree Show is an opportunity for the public to see original, experimental and creative content in the Grade II listed theatre: from pop-up spaces like the Writers’ Room and take part in script reading to dressing rooms transformed into individual cinema booths. Screenings will be in the 450-seat Victorian auditorium, also above and below the stage will be design and digital exhibitions. Even the bar will turn into a gallery and backstage a sound and radio installation space. The LSFM Degree Show is FREE and open to the public on Saturday 11am-7pm & Sunday 11am-4pm. Wheelchair access is limited to the ground floor and some content may not be suitable for children. Here’s the programme and this is the LSFM Degree Show trailer. BAFTA TV Awards 2016 | LSFM Alumni on Wolf Hall and Big Blue Live

British Academy TV Awards, last night, was celebrated by LSFM alumni who worked in the production teams of BBC shows. Well done to BBC One’s Big Blue Live, winner for Live Event. Part of the team were our 2002 graduate, producer/director of wildlife TV shows Joanne Ashman said it was “the hardest, and the best job I’ve ever done. So proud to be part of the team” and our 2009 Media Production alumnus who is a freelance editor, specialising in wildlife documentary, Jack Johnston (pictured with Dan Wardle) said: “such an amazing team and such an amazing production!” Jack is one of LSFM’s Industry Mentors. You can read his archive post on this blog when the BBC Springwatch team won an inhouse Production Award in 2015.

Congrats to BBC Two’s Wolf Hall – it picked up two awards: Mark Rylance for leading actor and also won in the category for Best Drama Series. Our 2013 Film and Television graduate Ashley Turner was “thrilled” to work as a floor runner on the BBC’s six part historical drama series and shared from experience how to get work as a runner – from the BBC’s Production Talent Pool to the adaptation of Dame Hilary Mantel’s best-selling period drama Wolf Hall. Andy Ellis, Class of 2002 | Lost Village Fest 27th-29th May 2016

Our BA (Hons) Media Production graduate, also MSc International Business, Andy Ellis is the Director at Major Label and he is organising Lost Village Festival in Lincolnshire from 27th to 29th May. The fest is a ‘musical journey like no other‘ said Andy: More than a music festival, Lost Village is an immersive experience taking place in a long forgotten forest – a surreal world misplaced in the sands of time. As you wonder its leafy corridors you’ll discover places such as the Abandoned Chapel, Burial Ground and Forgotten Cabin. One minute you’re dancing to disco under a canopy of leaves, the next you’re face-to-face with one of the village’s native inhabitants.

The Empty Throne, LSFM | Wins Educational Multimedia Award BUFVC

LSFM has won the British Universities Film and Video Council 2016 (BUFVC) Learning on Screen Educational Multimedia Award for The Empty Throne, directed by Philip Stevens (2010 alumnus & LSFM lecturer) Urban Apache Films and written by Laura Turner. Well done to the University of Lincoln School of Film & Media (staff, graduates, students, et al). The Empty Throne was a commission for the new arts and culture site 1215today.com: ‘It was created as the centrepiece for the website’s launch event at Lincoln Castle. The film was designed to give a tonal glimpse into some of the themes and events that led to the sealing of the Magna Carta by King John.’

Lincolnshire Digital Awards 2016 | Finalists – our LSFM Alumni

Gemma Lowe, Class of 2012 | Career Update

It’s been almost a year since I last wrote anything for the LSFM alumni blog and sitting down to write this has made me realise just how much has happened in that time. In my last post I spoke about why I was enjoying my career which, although different from the one I set out achieve with my degree, was rewarding and used many of the skills that the University of Lincoln had taught me. Not long after writing I was offered the role of Press and Media Content Officer for the Lincoln College Group, an opportunity that I was excited to get stuck in to. I have settled well into the role as part of the Marketing and Communications Team working across Lincoln, Newark and Gainsborough Colleges and I am enjoying putting the variety of skills I picked up during my degree to use.
