Graduate Michael Henry on his first day shoot on ‘Time and Place’

Michael henry_dayone_time&placeLSM’s 2009 alumnus and indie film-maker Michael Henry’s been shooting ‘TIME AND PLACE’ this week. He said: “the footage is looking great so far. We’ve really upped our visual game and I cannot wait to show everyone the finished film.” He’s been reflecting on day one’s shoot:

It was an unusual change of pace for us, as we usually film so swiftly. We decided before the shoot to take our time and really push the visual quality of the film. Spending longer (it took an hour and a half to shoot one shot) on each take. and scene, has made the shoot a little less enjoyable than other productions we’ve worked together on. Perhaps it’s because we’ve only really shot parts which emphasise the serious tone so far, or perhaps I need to cheer up, be more patient and enjoy the small moments as they come. One thing’s for sure, we are all looking forward to getting stuck into the more dialogue-heavy, meatier scenes as opposed to the shot-to-shot moments we’ve done so far. Continue reading →

Work Experience – Is It Worth It? By LSM Student Gemma Benefer

For those looking for jobs today, it’s a harsh world. You need experience but to even get the experience you need other experience and to get that experience you need a job. Not making much sense am I? But it is an endless loop.

Gemma Benefer_LSM_Jan2014To get work experience, you often need to do it for free. It can kind of suck, especially when other people you know are getting paid for having a “real job”, but you have to focus on what it would hopefully do in the long run. My work experience has already paid off and it kinda links to what I said before. There was an opportunity to work on the breakfast show at BBC Radio Lincolnshire during my second year at Uni. By this point, I was already volunteering at Siren FM. I applied, not really thinking I’d get it, but during my interview I was told that I wouldn’t have even gotten an interview if I hadn’t had any other work experience. So it just goes to show that to even get experience you still need other experience to get there.

It’s tough to get experience though, I’ll admit. A lot of the experience I have done is through sheer luck. I worked at Hollyoaks for a week because one of the Director’s was a family friend (and I honestly can’t thank him enough!) from there, I got the bug. Continue reading →

Graduate Jack Howard’s video on the Syrian Refugee Crisis

LSM’s 2013 alumnus Jack Howard’s written and directed The Syria Challenge, which is his take about the refugee crisis in Jordan.

Jack’s video aim’s to raise public donations for Oxfam’s Syria Christmas Appeal – running until 27 February 2014.  He said you can donate £3 by “Text Jack to 70066” and all monies from his video will go to Oxfam’s Syria Appeal.  

Oxfam said your donation “will be matched pound for pound by the UK government. These donations will support families affected by the Syria crisis.”

The talk provided a brief snapshot of Tom’s illustrious career to date, highlighting some of the highs and lows on his journey to world domination.  Tom is officially ranked within the top 200 YouTubers in the world with over 2.4 million subscribers, whilst his videos have gained over a staggering 450,000,000 views.
